it confuses me.
Hi, not quite sure what you want to know.
Basically the dog is sedated or put under GA and then x rayed.
These x rays are then sent to a bva panel who will examine them to see what degree of displaysia is present.
They will then score the different angle of the dgs hips and these scores will add up to a total for each hip.
The lower the score the less evidence of displaysia has been found.
For example 0:0 hips-best your going to get.
i think its a score of how good the hips are out of 53 so each hip is scored so
2:5 say is a good hip score but 1:24 means one hip is near perfect but the other is very bad
i think the adverage best score is different for each breed, i guess for breeds with HD problem such as German shepards should have as low as poss hip scores on each side
perfect hips are 0:0 but i doubt you can find any dog with that
theres a few with 0 0 hips lol.
the average is different in different breeds, but as stated the lower the better.
Indeed there are ... was just looking at some of the hip scores published on the Belgian Shepherd club site, and there are some 0-0 which is music to my ears, in a breed that averages 11. I know where to go now if I decided to have another dog!
Agreeing with the others. The higher the score the worse it is.
Also, elbow scores work on a 0-3 scale, 0 being the best and 3 being the worst.
for anyone wanting hip scoring done in Kent. there sa clinic at lakeview on 25th Aug. cost £70 plus £40 (BVA)............................sedation!!! also optigen testing £28
