Can hamsters contract covid-19

Discussion in 'Rodents' started by Deleted member 1510141, Mar 24, 2021.

  1. I am in isolation as I tested positive for coronavirus, I was wondering if hamsters can get it because I know they can catch infections from humans. If so, should I stay away from my hamster and be careful when I feed him? I definitely do not want to have an ill hamster. He does not have any symptoms of a respiratory illness currently so I don’t think he has it yet.

I have no idea, but as, as you say, hamsters can catch colds, flu etc off of humans, I'd act as though it is a possibility.

  3. Ok, thanks I will make sure to be careful when handling Churro.
