Hi all! Looking for cage recommendations to suit any hamster breed but specifically syrians. Love the ikea detolf but my parents aren''t so keen on the size. So anything 80x40cm? Is the ikea salma £15 with lid a good one? Also it needs to be under £70 which is tricky (and of course have 6" of base for bedding)

Minimum size cage for ANY hamster is 80x50cm.

An example of this is the Alaska cage off zooplus:

A bigger cage for any hamster that's 100x50cm is the Barney skyline again from zooplus:

Id highly recommend you get the Barney. It's bar spacing is 7mm which means it's also suitable for roborovski hamsters should you choose to have one in the future. It's also suitable for pet mice.

Female Syrians are hard to please so many hamster owners, including myself, recommend 100x50cm cage as a minimum!

So IMO your best option is the Barney as it's big enough for either males or females. It's also suitable for ANY hamster species. :)
