Is anyone able to tell me what is wrong with my bunnys eye? she is around 1 year old, I got her about 3 weeks ago. The previous owners said they only noticed her eye about 2 weeks before I got her.

The eye started off with just a little white and a cloudy area, now the white seems to have spread and also looks like there is some red in it. She seems to be happy in herself also when I took her to the vets they said she was definitely blind in that eye. but couldn't tell me what was wrong.

I'm thinking a cataract? but could it be an infection? what should I do?
The images are how her eye is currently.

You need to see a vet ASAP. A specialist preferably.

Could be an ulcer, it could also be E.C related.

Looks like my Dylans eye did, it had to be removed. It was sent off and it was caused by E cuniculi

He does fine with one eye now, doesn't bother him at all :)

Thank you to everyone who replied. I took star to the vets today and unfortunately she would need the eye removed which I was told would cost £815 + what else would come afterwards.
Sadly I don't have that sort of money:(
I feel so guilty and awful:(

:( I guess you don’t have insurance? Would the vets set up a payment plan?

No i don't, and I was told insurance wouldn't cover it as she would have had it from birth :( I dont think so no, ill have to double check with them though.

I just said id have to have a couple of days to decide what I want to do. If it was £200 - £300 then i would have been able to just stretch to that but 815 plus all other after care costs is just out of my reach sadly:(

The vet also said even having her eye taken out would not necessarily mean the infection wouldn't come back and may have even affected her brain already:(

Yeah I think it might be. If I knew the operation would completely save her life then I would definitely consider it, but the fact that even after the opp she could have long term health issues. I think it would be selfish to keep her suffering :(

Sadly star was put to sleep today. She had gotten worse over the weekend, unfortunately. She was sleeping most of the time and wasn't drinking much. Her circling had gotten worse also so I'm assuming it was affecting her brain more.
Although I was in absolute pieces today, I know it was for the best. She's out of any pain now and won't have to suffer. I will love and miss her always.
