Just having an amazing discussion about how long the term brb covers one for.

I said brb, and came back 45 mins later. A heated debate has ensued.

I feel brb covers a max of one hour, he says 20 mins.

    Opinions please :)

I would think about 10-20 minutes. That's a random conversation

Well, i'd say brb just covers the amount of time needed to make a brew, so 5 minutes max!!

Any longer than that and i'd go onto 'away' or log out or something lol

maybe im just stingy with my brb's :D

I have said Brb, intending to be away 10 minutes to make a coffee but come back about 3-4 hours later!! :D I think if I was in the middle of having a conversation with someone and knew I was going to be longer than around 20minutes I'd try and let them know. But I don't think theres any rule anywhere stating how long Brb can cover, it is better than just disappearing without saying anything!

How I see it is this. If someone says brb to me, I will think the conversation isn't over and wait for them. If I waited 45 minutes I would be a little bit annoyed, and the conversation WOULD be over!

I dont use it often but when I do its to let the dogs out for a pee or make OH a coffee.
Any longer than that and I say Im off to do whatever it is, back later.

Though I have said brb to someone not intending to return to the conversation  it wasnt a good friend or anything, just someone I hardly speak to and couldnt be bothered with, told him brb and just stopped talking. oops.

Iv also said brb to return to the conversation to find they had gone offline! :( or if its my mum she says bye before dissapearing lol

its be RIGHT back not be back in a bit :p

only a little while, max of about 20 mins, but it depends. If you signed out or went offline not necessarily, if you stayed on line it was too long and I would be waiting ready to start a witch hunt

I agree with others, 10 mins max for BRB. If I am going to be away for long, I say bye to that person & catch you later or see you tomorrow. I would not be so rude as to leave anyone hanging on for me for a long time. Incidently, all the people I chat to on MSN are good friends.
