I saw these yesterday on a stall in my local street market. The stall sells ethical/environmental dog products and the owner, it turns out, is someone who also runs a pet supplies shop where I get some of my dog food. The bowls are made of rice starch and rubber. When you don't want them any more, you drill some holes through and bury in the ground. There were balls made of the same stuff that were not quite round so they bounce unpredictably. www.ethicalpetsonline.com
I got mine from Petsathome. I really like 'em, easy to keep clean but sturdy-they've been kicked a few times but not broken.
