I think it's bl**dy nerve to even ask!
Did you watch the interview or just a snippet?
I think the opposite. If Brexiteers want the bongs then they can pay for them. I don't want that coming out of public money. There's way more important things to pay for.
Agreed, and that's more or less what Boris was saying. If you want it, pay for it
Very sensible in the present climate. Wouldn't want remainers thinking they'd paid for it. They've wasted rather a lot of tax payers money as it is
So who paid for the bongs on New Years Eve? No wouldnt contribute but if they raise enough money , then why not.
Ah right. I only read the article cos that smug face of Johnson makes me want to punch him.
I like him but even I think that smirk of his does him no favours
I didn't read it at all. I heard him on the TV this morning.
Then you know that he wasn't asking
You like him
Yep, and Nigel
From what I understand the PM has suggested that if people want Big Ben to bong at 11pm on the 31st January 2020 it should be crowd funded for, so it is privately funded, so it is not coming out of tax payers money. The figure being given for Big Ben to bong is £500,000 (half a million pounds). This figure gives people an idea of how much needs raising. It is like if people want to celebrate "Brexit" on the 31st Janaury 2020 they can by funding it themselves.
I don't think that is right. I believe some of the mechanism is not there, the hammer I think, so to bring it back would cost the money because it weighs 200kgs. So extra bongs shouldn't cost any more
I realised I made a mistake and corrected if . If you refresh the page it will be corrected.
That;s the second time I've "corrected" you this week. Sorry, I really am not trying to catch you out or anything
Twice. Really that many times and it is only Tuesday.
It still had a floor and hammer on NYE
On the 2nd of Jan the floor was removed to continue with the restorations...so part of the money is for a temporary floor which will be fitted and then removed so the work can continue again.
£50,000 per "bong"
It's a stupid idea considering the only ones that will hear it are those in Westminster...a fool and his money I guess.
Oh I see.Thanks . I didn't know that.
Of course I wouldn't contribute to any crowd funding for Big Ben, so it can ring in Brexit. What a ridiculous idea!
