Basil was rescued with just a week to live by my daughter and her family. They had two other dogs, cross yorkie/maltese named Dolly and Soo.I was so touched I wrote some words about Basil.

    HOPE

    No home, No food,No love
    No hope
Broken leg, shot in the back
    No hope
    Cataracts, arthritis, mange, fleas
    No hope
Put on death row, just a week to live
    No hope
    But will rescue come?
    Is it on the way?
    Is there hope?
    YES! I was rescued
I now have a home, food, love and care
    I am being healed
My new family love me and I love them
    There is always hope

    THE FRUITS OF HOPE

Hi my name is Basil, you may remember me
The dog that had so little hope but found a family
My leg is on the mend, I can now trot round the park
The mange and fleas have gone, my coat now thick and dark
Arthritis getting better with a tablet every day
Cataracts make my eyes weak but soft and blue they say
My favourite trick is head in bin to gobble up the scraps
Then I go all puppyish until its time for naps
I was once so very thin, now getting rather plump
My little sisters jump on me which makes my tail 'thump thump'
Don't give up hope of rescue friends, good people are out there
Seeking to adopt us and give home, and love and care.

The vet thought he had been trying to live wild, perhaps because his owner had died. It was obvious by his habits that he had once had an owner, and he thought the bullet in his back may have been from a farmer perhaps because he was worrying sheep. When in the garden or out for walks he would always walk along the edge of wherever he was, never where he could be seen clearly. obviously from his experiences. He had two years of lots of love and care until the vet felt it kinder to put him to sleep because he had become somewhat senile and it had been impossible to take out the bullet because of his age (about 12 years) I will try to post a couple of photos of him, one in his little 'cave' which he made for himself and where his ashes are buried.
