He has already produced two cross-bred litters and he isn't even two years old yet?

And wouldn't a powderpuff ALWAYS produce powderpuff puppies (surmising here - don't know much about the genetics of the breed.)

Powderpuffs can't carry a gene for hairlessness. They are "normal", just like any other coated dog.

The gene is dominant.... (I'll call it H for hairless) -
HH - a dog with TWO copies of the hairless gene, dies in the womb, as it is a lethal gene.
Hh - ONE copy = Hairless.
hh = No copies of the gene = Normal (aka Powderpuff).

It's a stud advert - it says the price is for 2 matings. They're not selling the dog.

Yep the fact that the seller is so uneducated on the breed they dont even know its not possible for a powderpuff to have hairless babies! Or they do and are just using it to make more money!!

Thank you - that is what I suspected, but wasn't totally sure of. So the advert is a LIE!!!

    Didn't see that coming . . .

(Actually, may not be a lie - may just be they don't know what they're talking about)

Interesting (to an ignoramus like me, anyway) that hairlessness is dominant. In many ways it is fortunate that a double dose is lethal, otherwise the world would be full of bald dogs, unprotected from both cold and heat.

I've seen it a lot with sellers who are breeding for particular colours. They'll tout a dog they're selling as being a great breeding prospect because they carry "X" colour despite it not being genetically possible.

Well there are other Hairless breeds, of course.... some of them larger (so more puppies in a litter despite the lethal).

I didn't mean to accidentally reply to my own post.

I put it down to Strong Drink (I have had a bottle of Beck's). I'll try not to do it again - I have use got into a feeding frenzy of replies, what with the Budget and everything . . .

I know there is at least one baldy Mexican hairless thingy with a lot of "x's" and "coatl's" in its name, and doubtless others. I get scienced out . . .

There are probable more anyway as the hairless [at least in the chinese crested] are more popular and lots of people dont even know the powderpuff exists. However i agree that its good that the double does is lethal otherwise they probably would have bred out the powderpuff side.
