if the shop is over a certain size they aren't allowed to open by law, so places like asda etc wont be open :)

I thought Tesco would be closed. Pretty surprised some are open. I feel kind of bad for the people who are having to work on what should be a nice relaxing day off!

Below 3000 sq ft can open. Was talking about this in the pub earlier with an Asda guy who's on holiday. When he started at Asda years ago they had two nights a week till 8pm otherwise closed at 6pm and no Sundays.

People are spoilt today and the supermarkets have played on it..family businesses can't work these hours with staff costs so the big boys win again.

In my younger days the shops shut at 6pm... a half day closed and no Sundays except off licences...we managed ok...and lots had no fridges.

Tomorrow is a bank holiday I don't think they are open full hours. Our Sainsburys is 9am-7pm instead of 7am-11pm
