Does anyone know of any good educational software, preferably free but willing to pay if it's any good.

I want my son to use his new computer to it's full potential, not just something to play games on but something that will help with his education.

He is 7 years old and I'd like any ideas or info to software or even web sites that are educational and fun.

    Thanks in advance
    Rob

When I was younger me and my brother had tons of educational games... but I think they are all a bit outdated now! :(

education city is very good, ask your school too if they have an affiliation as they can track his progress too.

bbc schools games (not cbeebies etc)

    Sparklebox for printables

funbrain for more online educational games

    Hope that helps x

I've checked out the education city site and looks great. I'll get in touch with my sons school and see if the are affiliates of this site and if not try and get them involved.

    Thanks for the list.

tbh... any site or cd rom that follows the national curriculum should be good. espresso is an excellent site, we can access it through our e-folio. has your son got e-folio through school? if so have a look on there to see if its accessible to children too x

Just had a look at the new clip about the site creator:-

Sparklebox creator jailed after paedophile verdict - News - TES Connect

But as the news site states, the site has been deemed safe, but the tool bar should be removed.

A bit more worrying is the fact that sparklebox2 was set up in 2007 after sparklebox was blocked. (SparkleBox registrants surname is King and sparklebox2 registrants surname is Kinge)

P.S. After having a good look trough the site, I will certainly be using a lot of the material on there.

Here are a few sites you can access free....

Look, cover, write, check = this is a spelling help website

Apples for the teacher = various games

Mathsplayground = (i think this one is still available) it has loads of fab maths games on it.

Footie2010 = a huge variety of free games for various ages with a football theme.

If you google these they are all easy to find.
