Am I alone in thinking "BJ's" is an inappropriate name for an ice cream van?

My local ice cream van is called "BJ's", painted on the side of his van.

Bearing in mind it is mostly children who use this van, am I over reacting by boycotting him?

I just think anyone with a brain cell would call his van something else, even if BJ were his initials (not sure what his name is and if these are his initials).

I can't help wondering if he is having some twisted laugh up his sleeve?

Or is it just that I have a dirty mind, and being judgemental?

it could be a perfectly innocent mistake, if you are that concerned you could always ask him about it? he might not even know what bj stands for and be mortified, I like to give folk the benefit of the doubt personally, on the other hand you could be right and then I wouldn't blame you for boycotting the van, I haven't seen an ice cream van in years! :frown:

He is a grubby, grumpy older man, so I just don't think I would be comfortable approaching the subject with him...

Surely someone else MUST have pointed it out to him as inappropriate??? And even my parents who are "posh" and never swear know what a BJ is.....

Oh and ice cream vans are a very common thing where I live.... :)

Maybe he think's he's being clever and using the initials from Ben & Jerry... ;)

Not realising that some dodgy bird somewhere is reading something TOTALLY different.......................

There are SO many insinuations that can be found within ice-cream terminology it is probably best not to look too much further into this. :w00t:

But I an sure old grumpy Bernard James is delighted at the free publicity you have just given him. :D :D :D

They are now, come to think of it, aren't they?

Mr Whippy is okay, that is a trade name for the whipped ice cream machine...

But I can't help thinking the grubby wee BJ is having a sick twisted joke....

If his real name is Brian Johnson (or something else and is real), you should put the other stuff your mind has generated about grubby blokes with ice cream vans attracting children with innuendos for the purposes of grooming, etc. out of your mind. If his name isn't the initials, but his bell plays 'mr bo jangles' or something else titled with the initials BJ, then again, put the other stuff out of your mind. Why don't you go up to his van when he's next about and ask him? The tell him to rename the following products he sells: screwball, multi-coloured rocket lolly and a push-up, magnum (in case children think he's selling champagne or guns), etc. etc. Don't ice-cream van traders need ECRB and a licence from the council anyway?

The van that comes round my way has 'Sam's Supersoft' emblazoned on the side - I don't know if that's just to reassure us parents or not :001_smile:

When he BLOWS his whistle at 6.30pm ish, I am gonna take a pic and post it here ha ha....

There, even more free publicity for wee grubby Bernard ;)

But seriously, I was going to take the matter to the area committee, but thought I would gauge reaction here anon, before maybe making a plank of myself at a public meeting!!!!

If it read 'blow jo3s' then yeah I would deem that innappropriate, but not 'BJ's'.

There's a burger van nearby with' Jodys Baps' written on the sign but that doesn't mean she is offering boob jobs.

Yeah, I thought it may be his initials, but surely in this day you just wouldn't put BJ's in huge red writing on a white van? You just wouldn't want folk like me making those assumptions?

If his name is Brian Jackson, he could have called his van Brian's...

Anyhooooo maybe I am just an evil, old wuman thinking the worst lol.

seeing as most of his clientel won't have a clue about what a Bj is I wouldn't be bothered personally in context.
