Hi guys I've got a customer having her dog neutered but she has said she wants me to walk him on Fri as normal he's been neutered tomorrow. As only had bitches myself and they are lead walk for a week after surgery. What is normal procedure for dogs?

I'd refuse until she'd checked with her vet. I know dogs recover quicker but they can still rip stitches.

She wants a walk this Friday, the day after the op??

We used to recommend no walks for the first 48 hours and then a post op check with a nurse. When Benji was neutered he spent most of the following day asleep, there's no way he was up for a walk!

To be honest she should be told by the vet the care that will be required post op ... it's carried out under general anaesthetic and the dog will be wobbly for 24 hours after anyway ...and then you should only lead walk gently for the next few days ...even if the dog thinks otherwise! So yes, Friday would be too soon.

I couldn't have left mine so soon. He reacted badly to the anaesthetic and needed me to be there.

When Zeus was neutered I couldn't have walked him the day after if I tried, he just slept all day and didn't want to move. She probably dosnt realise how wobbly he will be from the anaesthetic and I'm sure she will just rearrange if you explain that.
