I went on holiday (to Aberdeen of all places, I was so bored!! I need to get around to getting a passport and go out the country at some point!!) I have no idea how it happened but I have ended up with 6 new mice!! Well actually I do but if anyone outside this forum asks they appeared in my luggage...
I had been in touch with a breeder to get two or three little girls but she didn't get in touch and I was so upset that mum helped me find adverts in Gumtree. We found one selling pet mice and got two little boys (gonna post the pics separately after I have finished rambling!) They are gorgeous little red satin mice. Not actually so little, they are 5-6 weeks old and are bigger than Kissifur and Mintola my 5 month old "babies." The owner had bought mice from a rodent shop to breed babies for their snakes and didn;t have the heart to do it themselves so took them back to the reptile shop to be sold as food! Howw evil is that?? They had a few left so I got two (would have taken more but was told no...) Poor mites are so scared of their cage and human contact that they just sit and shake. They only had a bed and a toilet roll tube before. It has taken them two days to figure out what a wheel is. Sob!!
Then, as I was still upset about not having any girls we phoned all the pet and reptile shops just to see if they had any. Luck! a pet shop had baby mice so we drove 2 hours (up to Inverness) to have a look. They had two 15 inch by 12 inch cages with at least 10 mice in each almost fully grown - my tank is 24 by 18 and I have only 5 in it!! So I got two little females. They couldn't even tell us if they were related but they were so cute!! And again, they would be reptile food - the pet shop "specialised" in snakes. Grr...:cursing:
Then, I got home and was putting the babies into their temporary homes and thought, "oops - I should have checked you." I had checked all the mice at the shop except the tiny little cream one I bought (even checked the bigger one that I got.) Turned out one of the "females" was a male . Serves me right for not checking! So, being a responsible mousey owner, I decided that I couldn't take the poor little boy back to be snake food so went back to get him and the little girl a friend each - after all, it would be evil and cruel to make them live on their own right? :001_tt2: So I got two more mice. Turned out they were all related and are 6 weeks old (same as the ginger mice)
So how exciting was all that?!?!

Here is the second boy from Inverness (he's a Himilayan!! So happy!!)

And this is his tiny, tiny little brother (only half his size.) I am a little worried about him as he has a tail that is so skinny I can see his bones through it. Have been fattening him up with chicken. He loves it and hasn't stopped eating but is very scared :p

I haven't decided on names for either of these little fellows yet, but am thinking of calling the tiny one "Scrambled Egg", Scramble for short. He has all the same colours in him.

And here is one of the sisters to the himi and cream boys (she is called Sookie)

Excuse the fact that her eye looks wonky, she was in bed and won't come out!!
Neither she or her sister will come out of their bed and I'm actually a little concerned that she might be pregnant. I got her on Saturday and she has spent the entire time building nests in various parts of the cage and mothering her baby brother until they were separated. She's only five weeks. none of my other girls have ever done this except Nibbler when I got her and at the time she had 5 babies to tend with. I hope she isn't for her sake as she is very young. It's also one of the reasons that I don't have any other photos. She and her sister (the same colour as the baby boy) have spent the whole time building nests and sleeping. I hoep it's just until they settle in. THey are living in a habitrail mini just now and spent a little time exploring it. They had a lump of cotton wool and a toilet roll tube in the pet shop and the habitrail mini for the two of them is the same size as the pet shop had them and 9 other mice in. I think they have more room than they are used to!!

And here is a picture of Kissifur and Mintola for comparison purposes so you can see just how big the new mice are already compared to my existing family (they are now 5 months old!)

Going to start adding the photos (of which there are many!!) to my profile as I think I might get shot with the number that there are if I tried to add them to a post!! I will however add the photo of their cages later and a wet Kissifur!!!!

If anyone has any suggestions on names for the little girl and the himi boy I would love to hear them as I'm completely stuck!!

So that brings me to a grand total of 14 mice!! Oh boy!!
The existing family of 8 cost me £10 in total. The new mice have cost me a fortune to rescue: two satins £10, the pet shop mice £9 each (£36), new habitrail cage £10 (new from a car boot ;P) holiday condo for the ladies £48 (this is what the boys are living in - it's got three tiers so the two bruisers are living between two layers while the Himi and Scrambled are living on one layer.) So I need to get a couple more wheels - and Tails and the girls have worn down their wheel - it runs at an angle because the plastic has worn down from all the running they do!!
