The babies have been sneezing yesterday and today Dumbo was kind of gurgling so took them all to the vets...it's not just a respiratory infection...it's myco:(
They'll be on medication for the rest of their lives-he's started them off on Baytril and Bisolvon for 2 weeks then they'll have a break for 2 weeks and then back on etc.If that doesn't work they'll be on it permanently :( Not allowed to carry on with the intros with Klaus for the next 2 weeks-if he stays clear I can then find a new friend for him,if he develops it too I can intro him to the babies again. Our mice and gerbil are at risk too, the hamsters can't catch it.I'm so unhappy.I went to P@H straight after and spoke to the manager-she said it's the first case in years. She refunded my vet fee today and will be speaking to her manager about the ongoing costs of treatment. My poor ratties :( It's fairly mild at the moment but the vet said they can go downhill really quickly so can't give a prognosis. I will never ever ever get a pet from there again, even from the adoption section :(

I'm very sorry to hear this polish.

This is exactly why I do not and will not take on pets at home rats.
Is the vet sure it's myco? I know all rats are born with it but I think if there from poor breeding it becomes more present??
It's not SDA virus is it? How long u had your babies for?

I'm really sorry to hear this :( I hope it doesn't get much worse, and your three only have to have minimal meds :(

I've had them 3 weeks and the vet is certain-luckily he's a rat specialist. He said all rats are born with it but that it's probably a breeder fault and that p@h just go for the cheapest rats not the best bred ones.He said they're also probably run down too which has made them more susceptible. He said Klaus might be OK as he's older and his immune system might be better which is why we have to pause the intros for now.

I've just seen your post you've made in the fancy rats health section (it alerts anyone who is a member to new cases of the SDA virus) and if yours do have it then dont go visiting any pet shops, rat shows or other peoples ratties for at least 6-8 weeks!
It's a very nasty virus I really hope your rats will be ok.
Have you read up on sdav?

Is myco the same as sdav?have I posted in the wrong section on there?oops.I thought the contagious thing was for all contagious infections not just sdav.
Ok just read about sdav and it's not that-there's no other symptoms other than the gurgling and sneezing.Eyes are fine and there's no porphyrin etc.

    Ok that's good then.
Yes it's posted in the sdav section in health.
If it was SDA virus then klaus would've got it living in the same house and all.

    Some info on myco
    Health Guide: Mycoplasma / Mycoplasmosis

And apparently other rats can't catch it because its in there system anyway it's just the weaker ones that get the flare ups.
    So klaus should be fine.
