I think he/she is thirsty and trying to unsuccessfully trying to drink from the pond, we are trying to move the outlet so it can reach but a dog bowl and or bird bath aren't good enough, well I hope it's after a drink and not my fish, but I think it's a young Sparrow Hawk.

I have a couple of shallow dishes of water in the garden which the squirrels and some of the birds use instead of the pond or bird bath.

I do have two dog bowls it could use, but I beginning to think it's after the fish or is just enjoying hanging out there as it's just left a fairly well stripped squab carcass :Yuck

Well it appears that he/she just likes dunking themselves in the pond under the pump outlet and then hanging out on top of the pergola, I think it's because it so warm so it's cooling off, and I think it has eaten Mrs Blackbird and another Pigeon as they are little patches of feathers out in the paddock.

We have a wood pigeon that just sits in the birdbath for ages
    Just sitting there, not bathing
I think he must suffer from hot feet

I fully understand his issue, my feet swell I the heat :D

I'm having to refill my bird baths 2 -3 times a day at the moment as my pigeons are splashy little blighters.

Well they are still here just hanging out, they are very bold as it's very happy to sit in it's favourite spots whilst we walk up and down the drive, come in and out in the car/van, but it comes down gets itself wet then sits in the sun on the lawn or back up in it's spot, I hope it still comes visiting even when it's not so hot.
