a male friend has this as his status on facebook

Men are anxious to improve their circumstances, but are unwilling to improve themselves; they therefore remain bound.

    This is unfair Vicky.
I can think of many things derogatory about women which are equally true. Your statement is not a true statement because a true statement would say "Some Men" and not to include all men which you have done.

I'd also like to point out your statement also applies to women as well. Try replacing the word men with "Women" and guess what it also applies many women too.

James Allen. A philosophical writer of British nationality.

I might be inclined to add 'Let us then strive to improve ourselves....'

Although in my case I'm damn near perfect!

One of Allen's quotes I have always loved is this one:

"Circumstances do not make the man, they reveal him."

    and that's very true.

For the sake though, of others on this thread, who forget that when these words were written, women weren't deemed worthy enough to write about in such a manner LOL, I'll rephrase it as best I can for the modern world:

"People don't change, circumstances change people".

Your lovely best friend might be all Snow White, with birds flying around her head and bunnies hopping at her feet each morning, but just watch how quickly she can turn into an evil witch if her circumstances change! ;)

How are husbands like lawn mowers?
They're hard to get started, they emit noxious odors, and half the time they don't work.

    ;)

Bit like my OH whom does not like being laughed at ... especially when he does something funny! (like trip over)
