Ben dived on a dog at the park today we had bumped into the in laws and my father in law grabbed him by the collar and yanked him back to me choking him

I'm not sure if I can do this anymore

sorry you are having a hard time just now. sorry too cos I am unsure of your post..is it the fact your FIL grabbed the dog and choked him or are you working on aggression with your dog? sorry if you already explained much of this in other threads.

You can do it, you know you can :). I also know that overwhelming feeling when things go wrong. It is a cliche but tomorrow really is another day.

Im not sure what you are upset about either!
But if its your dog then I hope things get better for you, just remember that even if walks are challenging they probably take up less then 10% of your day....I bet he is fantastic to be around the pother 90%!
If its the FIL then I dont know, cant really take them to a behaviourist can you!

This is a serious offer now. If you feel that walking with calm, none reactive dogs (my pointer aside, I wouldnt bring him) would help Ben in any way then please feel free to get in touch. My collies are very laid back and no dogs ever take offence at them.

Both really! Ben has been doing so well but it has also annoyed me that my FIL choked him over to me, fair enough grab him off but don't choke him in a punishing way

What go for a walk with the in laws? I'm not sure I could do it with mine either :nonod:

In all seriousness though, my OH's mum is a complete nightmare with my two, she doesn't come out for walks with us but she is pretty much incapable of listening to anything I ask her not to do. When we're round at hers, she'll call them into the kitchen and before I know what's happening, they'll be running past me with a rawhide/dentastix/massive cut of meat/jumbone in their mouths :incazzato: not quite the same as what your fil did but trust me, I know the feeling of feeling pretty much helpless in these kind of situations.

Anyway sorry you're feeling rubbish :( god knows half of pf have been through owning a reactive dog in some way or the other so you're most definitely not alone on here :)

I'm sure things will look brighter tomorrow x

I can vouch for the collies - they helped a great deal in helping Benjie. And I've already said I wouldn't mind bringing Jack out too.

We just bumped into them! Shame they didn't see him this morning with two Scottish terriers that we met! He was lovely :(

My MIL always gives him Bakers treats when I tell her not too.

    Thanks for your support everyone

I'd be peed off is someone choked my dog too, and it is always disheartening when they go back in training.

Definitely take the others up on their offer as it really will help him to have good experiences with other dogs.
I'd meet you too for walks as my pair are great but bit too far for me...I'm yet to brave the motorway lol

hi,all my rescues have been da,i know you want ben to socialise, but sometimes we have to accept they just don't like others.i just got used to keeping them on lead,it didn't stop us going anywhere, just accepting it can stop you stressing.maybe walking with slb and Leanne would be good, just don't force him.

It is hard to accept your right though, its isn't the end of the world. And as someone said walks are only a small part of the time. We had a nice game of tug and chasing around the garden when we got back :)

he loves you and his family,i found the worst bit was people judging me as a bad owner.just stick with him and he will bring you enough joy to overlook his little ways.i"m not keen on most people, sadly I cant bite them but I b feel like it sometimes.chin up and give the lump a cuddle

I can sympathise but like others have said walking isn't the be all and end all - I have to be so careful with Kes these days because she just rubs dogs up the wrong way so much of the time and it stresses me out and I've shed many a tear but give Ben a hug and look into his eyes and you know you'll make it just fine

I haven't walked with Leanne sadly but from what I know of her collies they are great and SLB's Jack is a fantastic boy so I hope you can get together with them and it perks you up :)

I generally walk him in the morning as hubby leaves for work before me and her walks him in the evening or we go together in the evening.
