Just spent a good part of this evening at the vet.

I have been having problems with my beautiful cat for a while with weeing in the house. We have put it down to stress as we have had new neighbours with, ithink, 5 cats move in. Also lost two of our own in the last few months.I have been using Feliway plug ins and spray and also Zylkeene which seemed to at first help. Any how my daughter (technically her cat) and I decided to speak to a behaviourist collegue or hers and to also have some bloods etc done just to rule out any under lying cause. Any how when I got home form work tonight BC did not come running as usual but when he did not appear on top the fridge tr ing to get in hte cupbouard for his food I realised he was still lying on my bed which is where he was when I left him earlier today. Not that unusual for a cat:rolleyes: But when i picked him up he was all floppy and when I stood him up he could not stand. At first I suspected trauma but could see nothing obvious any how to cut along story short he has kidney failure. He has shown none of the classic signs, he looks so healthy, has not lost weight, has a lovely glossy coat,no ulcers nothing. His weeing we all felt was stress as these other cats have turned my front garden into their litter box and losing two of ours. He is on a drip tonight to see if he improves if he does there is medication if not it may be number three I have lost this year.

He had a heart condition and I always expected that to be what could take his life.He has been getting oxygen to help his breathing as he was getting so distressed. Paws crossed for him.

So sad for you-we lost of four cats aged 9 mths to kidney failure-Im hoping that you are given good news tomorrow. Its so difficult to know whats going on with them especially when there are no really obvious symptoms -or when the symptoms-as in your case could just have been stress.

Thinking of you both and sending big hugs
    from Maureen

    Hi there,

so sorry that you had to have him pts :(
    Did the vet recommend this?
Sooty also has renal failure, however it is a manageable condition. Many times these cats "crash", which sounds like what your poor boy did, but many times they recuperate again. I'm sorry I didn't see this earlier, I would have pointed you in the direction of Tanya's Comprehensive Guide to Feline Chronic Renal Failure , the website has been a fantastic pot of knowledge and experience for me. I would have a look on there, and read through the stories. I think that your vet definitely could have done more for him, and he should have been in the position to advise you of this and given you the option to fight for your poor boy.
There are medications and other treatments he could have offered.

I apologise if this gets taken the wrong way, I am in no shape or form criticising you for your decision, if my vet hadn't been so fab as he has been and Sooty suffered something similar, I would have most likely made the very same decision. It's probably one of the toughest decisions somebody has to make. It's absolutely heartbreaking and I know some day I will have to make that decision for him, but for the time being I am in the position to fight for him.
Franklin, our MC, passed away three years ago, he had to be pts as he was in end stage renal failure and simply had no quality of life any more.

Sooty sends big snugs to you, take comfort in that he is up in rainbow bridge now, probably relaxing in the sun with old Frankie boy.

    Lots of love xxxx
