Hi everyone

We’ve decided to get 2 sprollie puppies, I know, we’re mental.
I could do with some advice on sprollie diet.
What dog food brands are suitable?
What should I look out for? And what should I avoid?
These will be our first dogs so really need some advice.
And any other advice on the sprollie breed.

No dogs dogs before? Are you aware of Litter mate Syndrome? This is really no way to start as a new dog owner.
Having 2 pups at the same time CAN work - I've done it. But unless you are well experienced at training and spotting any issues early on, it's not recommended. Sibling pups will often bond more closely with each other than with their human family, and all training has to be done individually as well as together. That's more than 3 times the work of having one pup. Gruelling it was, and that was having had the experience of sorting out a rescue dog who had been mistreated, and rearing another dog from a puppy. Being self-employed, I could put the time in and work around them. Not everyone has that flexibility.
Sprollies are usually nice dogs, from those I've come across. A friend has 2 of them, but around 9 years apart in age. It's unlikely that any pups you find will be tested for hereditary issues such as poor hips, which are quite common in both parent breeds.
Food? The collie element may bring in sensitivity to certain things, such as grains.

I really hope you'll re-think getting 2 pups.

Sorry to be Negative Nancy but I have to agree with the others! Plus I’m very surprised that a responsible breeder would let two puppies go to beginner dog owners - most good breeders would only be happy doing that if the owner had lots of dog experience to deal with the extra issues that two puppies could raise.

Honestly, one puppy at a time is more than enough for most people. Have a read of all the ‘puppy blues’ threads that get posted here and then times that by two....

Out of interest, what’s your reasoning for wanting two pups at the same time?

Please let me tell you as a first time dog owner with ONE puppy - it is a lot of work. You put a lot of time, attention and training into a puppy while still learning many new things yourself as a new dog owner..Even though I did a lot of reading and research and I grew up with dogs in the family, the puppy blues hit me hard the first week with our Nova.

If you’re determined to have two puppies, I would suggest one male, one female as there are usually less ‘competitive’ issues as they grow up, and be aware of age they can breed/be neutered.

It would be better to go for one puppy, then if you must have another then 6/9 months later, when the original one is a bit more civilised ( or not if it gets teenage horror behaviour).
