And then whilst taking these photo's I saw this, very blurred because it was continually flapping it's wings very fast
Flower Plant Petal Botany Wood

I have searched to ID it and believe it could be a hummingbird hawk moth. I don't think I have seen one in this country before but did see some bigger ones in America a few years ago.

Here's a slightly better one. It has been out there for about 40 minutes now, keeps flying off then coming back.

Almost certainly is. I've only ever seen one in my whole life

They never do sit still. They warm up by hovering by a sunny wall, getting the reflected heat, rather than sitting using the wings as solar panels like most butterflies do. Moths can normally generate the heat to get going by flapping their wings.
Hummingbird hawk moths are amazing creatures.

It's back again! Has been busy on the same bush as yesterday for the last couple of hours, it keeps coming and going. I really wish I had the right camera equipment and skills to get a decent photo of it.

Update: There are two out there now and possibly a third. That's probably why it is coming and going so often, it's not the same one!
