I have 2 male chinchillas, both wilson whites, who will be 2 years old in may looking for a new home where someone can get them out daily for exercise and attention.

I adore my boys, but due to recently having a baby I find I haven't got the time to give them as much attention anymore and I feel like an chin-mummy :crying:

The boys would have to stay together, they have been together since they were babies and it would be tragic if they got seperated.

I really don't want to see them go, but I feel it's in their best interests that they find a new family.

Can anyone help?

Thank you in advance x

Hi, if you you don't mind me asking how recently have you had your baby, and is it your first? I just ask because I've got a toddler, and I did find that it took me the first 6 months or so to really get into a proper routine and feel like I had proper time for my pets beyond just the essential cleaning out/feeding/watering.

You don't neccesarily need to feel pressure to interact with them quite so much straight away - especially when you think of the lifespan your guys will have, I'm sure they'll forgive you if it takes a little while for you to get used to your new person :)

I'm not trying to make a hard decision worse, but thought it could help - good luck with whatever you decide x

Unfortunatley it's not that simple :(

We're currently staying with family and there's 6 of us in a 2 bedroom house, we're on the council list, but have been told we wouldn't be looking at getting somewhere for at least 6 years, because of the waiting list and because my OH works full time, so we're having to look into private renting, which a lot of the landlords won't accept pets. And we can't really hold out till we find one in our budget as it's just too much at home.

I've asked on another forum and got quite some negative feedback about having to rehome them, that "I should have thought about how long they live before getting them and people like me should be banned from keeping animals" when the fact is I had my chins before I was pregnant and our baby wasn't planned.

I love my animals, I've always been around animals since I was young and being somewhere without them will be heartbreaking, but I have to think of my daugther now. I haven't got any family or friends that can keep them, my uncle loves them, but my aunt won't have them in the house.

If anyone can help I'd be very grateful

Firstly I wish I could help but I'm a bit far away with no transport :(

Secondly the bit I bolded is a bit harsh, everyone goes through tough times in their life, as you say it isn't as easy as just getting into routine with the chins and baby, you have to find somewhere to live also. What would they prefer, you to not try to find them a home and end up being homeless due to it?? hmmm I think not :nonod:
Some people really need to work out that life doesn't always go the way you want it to, and sometimes all we can do is what is best for the pet

It sounds like you are in a very difficult situation and it is sad that some people can't see that you are trying to do your best for your animals.

I may be able to help with transport, especially if you could get them a bit further towards Reading/chieveley services. Do they come with their cage, and if so would it fit in a small corsa (plus said toddler's car seat)? I'd suggest checking with some rescues, although the ones I'd normally recommend are too full at the moment I'm afraid.

Have you seen the chinsrus forums?

They do come with their cage, but it's a john hopewell custom made and it's 6ft long, so anyone wanting the cage would need a to hire a van I think? unless they had a cage already for them .. I've been told now I need to try and rehome them in the next month :(:(

To transport I need the dimension of the cage does the cage collapse? I have another cage to transport them in I have a kia sedona would I get cage in the car I have picasso as well? ALso if the resuce centre still wants them trapsorted to chively services I'm also willing to do that. Pleae let me know in plenty of time as I have to arrange ferry from where I live

couldn't fit that cage in my car I'm afraid :(

I'm not a rescue, just help out with them and transport things/temporary stays to help them get to rescue places. I can house them temporarily if need be, will work something out - even if it just hold on to them until TKK can get here. I'm based in south Oxfordshire but do visit Southampton/Bournemouth sometimes if that helps ferry wise?

the cage is 6ft long and 3ft depth and doesn't collapse :( it's a bit of a bulk of cage, we have it cause it fits in our conservatory, but not sure if it'll fit in a living room - would you have a cage they could live in if you couldn't take their one?

I'd love you to have the boys, you've got chins already haven't you? :)

When ever is easier for you, we can drop them off closer to you if it's easier?
