Oh they are beautiful. I do like Ragdolls.
Have you got any kittens in the horizon
@David C yes, a litter of 4 arrived april 20th, 2 boys 2 girls!!!
Oh excellent can't wait to see pics as they develop
@David C for sure, we just lost one of the little boys though. Went to sleep and he was fine. Checked on them 2 hours later to find that mum had dropped him on the cold floor and left him there. Warmed him up straight away but it was too late. Im furious with her because he was one of the stronger ones. Currently trying to save another one thats fading. She lost 2 at birth as well...not doing very well with this bunch...
Edit: we lost the other one too in the end, so there are only two left but they seem to be strong. The one that faded was born very little so we knew it would be touch and go with her. Mum isnt being hugely attentive so we are having to do bums and everything as she seems to think she can do the parenting thing if and when it suits her so muggins over here is having to pick up the slack
Oh bugger. Thats a shame. Have you tried crating her so she's with the kittens and can't move them. Also the crate big enough for her kitten box litter tray and food etc that way she has no where to go but with the kittens. This worked well with one of our girls who wasn't overly interested but because she coukdnt get away from them she just got on with it.
@David C yes we were going to do it last night but got distracted and then decided it could wait til morning. Kicking ourselves now. Got them in it this morning and the other two have started gaining weight now as well, thank heavens, so perhaps they will make it...fingers crossed...after the last 2 days im scared to hope
Your doing all you can. If you don't gain enough weight try topping them up 3 times a day. I know allot use bottles for this but I prefer a 1ml syringe because I can just slowly put a tiny bit at a time in their mouths and no risk of aspiration then. Usually get about 3ml down them per top if if its needed. I buy the 1ml syringes from amazon.
@David C yeah, i rang the vet for formula yesterday and and they told me not to worry so much and to give them til today to see how they do before giving formula and made me think i was overreacting, when we realised she wasnt going to make it til then we rang the emergency line for some but the guy was an hour away and she went so quickly it was just too late for her. I wish i had trusted my instincts and got it yesterday but equally im not sure formula would have saved her anyway. She was 2.85oz when born and 2.3 when she died just 48hrs later. She really was tiny especially for a ragdoll and she just lost so much weight. But at least the two that are left are really strong and back up to their birth weights, and we have the formula in now ready for top ups. I dont like to top up unless absolutely necessary but i will not lose any more of these kittens. I still cant believe 6 became 2 in such a short space of time...
How about you, will you be having any litters this year?
Where do you live. Just with you saying 2.5oz's I always work in grams.
If your in the UK I never buy formula from the vets. We use Beapher kitten formula can be bought online or most pet shops can get it in for you.
Yeah your right, no amount of formula would have saved that tiny one.
We have a litter die on 1st May. One of our girls we bred her first litter.
@David C i live in the uk too i just work in oz with kittens haha, how exciting - yours are due really soon, i require pictures!!
