there is apparently a 4-person tag-team, making the rounds of the UK forums; they've been given the heave on a number of them - not this one [yet].

me thinks you're right - I am noticing that they are posting with increased frequency elsewhere too almost always straight after one another lol! Looks better if they didn't do that ;-) I think extinction is the only way to scratch this itch - breathe deep and ignore!!

i had not been aware of Grandad posting anything/anywhere else -

hey rob, I think you're right re that shock thread but check out the new recruit to the pro shock side...he thinks that there is a misunderstanding of aversives. He then links to presumably his video of aversives that life throws our way and how they are apparently on par with those provided via electric shock under the control of a human who deliberately delivers them via remote control. Someone should tell him that sudden sniffing in dogs is a self calming behaviour seen after a distressing incident not really exploratory behavour in search for an insect?????? (see the video clip ;-)

the "be nice" directive was rather restraining!

It was but it was the only way to ensure that posts made by more enlightened owner/trainers stayed on the thread for the benefit of any less knowledgable owners and their dogs.

thank DoG for keyboards, if i met the dude in person, my tongue would be sharper than my text! :o
indirect negative reinforcement, Lord luv a duck, where the heck did he cobble that up?
he's a troll, IMO, but i don't want newbies blindly following his piper's tune & dragging their poor dogs along.

Yeah! I think if you "luv your dogs", spent the money on a prong and it seems to have helped; psychologically it's tough to even consider that you did something "nasty"
Like the guy who spent years with the Briard... I'd love to train the dog for 2x10 mins a day using rewards, but he WOULD NEVER risk it; because if the dog does well, he'd have to admit he totally wasted his time with the "firm, strong" aversive based methods

glad U liked it - that guy had me laughing, too  i loved ColliePoodle's image of migrating Poodles, that was hysterical.

Hehehe, my pup took ages to do fetch properly, rather than stalk his toy. I still have issue that he seems compelled to go to ground, nearby, perhaps tossing it few feet as an offering, rather than drop it right to feet.

I tell you what is difficult, trying to get him to fetch his sausage toy when he's never played with toys!

For eager & reliable recall, be fun for the dog to come back to! Then often send them off right away to do what they wanted!
DT&B - Glossary of acronyms & jargon terms.
Encouraging good behaviours, whilst consistently avoiding practise of bad alternatives leads to extinction of the bad. So if dog sits 6/10 times it doesn't sit 4/10 times, encouraging with the right rewards (positively-reinforcing) enough for 9/10 times means it now fails to sit only 1/10 times, sit 10/10 means...
