Hi everyone. I'm new to this group but not to rabbits~I've kept them for nearly 30 years! However, rabbit abscesses are still no easier to deal with! Currently my house rabbit, Cabbit, has been having trouble with blocked tear ducts which have caused repeated abscesses. The current one is under her right eye & Baytril is now struggling to contain it.(2 different vets have given 2 different doses of the same! Cabbit weighs 3.45 Kilos.)
She was originally a 'Pets At Home' Rabbit; a mini Rex which we adopted. However, all my other rabbits live outside and are home bred with no similar problems occurring~(Just the manky fox giving us jip:eek:). Cabbit isn't a great hay eater but loves the Russel Rabbit mixes. I was just wondering if diet is an issue with these repeated & persistent abscesses. Also does anyone know if children's dose penicillin can treat rabbit abscesses as I've heard penicillin can be very dodgy in rabbits, at least orally.
Any advice would be most appreciated.
