I do not have kids but believe they are good family dogs - my friend has a young son and a ridgie and they are inseparable. They are very lively and big pups though so I probably wouldn't have one around very young kids. They are a big guarding breed and need an extended period of socialisation and of course any dog can be aggressive, but you really need to put a lot of work into a RR. They do get bored very fast and do take a lot of time and effort to train - learn fast but very independent thinkers indeed.

If I were you I would go along to some shows, meet some breeders and their dogs and discuss whether or not a RR would suit you and your lifestyle. I would look only at reputable breeders who breed for temperament and use health tested dogs. I know there are a lot of cheap pups out there but I really would urge you to not take that option. Hope that helped a little.
