Re: I Need Help

That would depend on their species and of course their sex... Are you sure they are male and female? At 5 years old they shouldn't really be big enough to breed, so it may be a dominance thing.

Re: I Need Help

Again it could be two males fighting for dominance or it could be a mating.

It doesn't matter about the age of a tortoise it is all about their size as to whether they are capable of breeding or not.

Without knowing what species your torts are would be hard to tell you what sort of suitable nesting site they need and incubation temps if you wish to incubate the eggs.

Post a pic of the top of the shell and one of their underbelly (plastron) with a clear view of the tails and we may be able to tell you what sex they are

Yes tortoises like hermans, ibera, horsfield, gracea and marginateds can live out doors in the british climate 24/7 365 days of the year. They will need some form of additional heating in the spring and autumn and when hiberating and also will require a greenhouse or coldframe for the colder summer days. Also they will need a safe frost and rat free place in which to hiberate like a greenhouse or coldframe.

Have a read of the post I posted on the thread below, I posted lots of links about torts living outdoors and housing etc.

Vivariums and Terrariums Differences?

Because you are looking for an adult herman you will need to rehome one. You can do this by buying one off classified sites like preloved, or rehome one via the Tortoise Trust or the British Tortoise Society. Both of the later will require a home check and questions will be asked about how you intend to care for the tortoise you wish to rehome, so make sure you do your home work on the species and sub species of hermans first.

Incidently healthy hermans don't grow much bigger than 15-20cm any way. Marginated's, Gracea and ibera grow a little bigger. Any bigger than that then you are looking at the tropical species, which don't hibernate, need year round heating and can't be kept outdoors, they must be brought in at night and on cooler days, so require more care, more food and cost much more interms of heating bills
