Not sure of the type from the picture but it will most probably need water and a place to bask. Depending on the size of the tub it may be ok (it is recommended that you have at least 40 litres per inch SCL (Straight Carapace Length). How long is your friend gone for? A Terrapin will need enough water to swim and turn over in (The depth should probably be at least the width plus a half the size of the shell). A basking area out of the water that reaches temp of 30C. A bedside lamp will be ok if your only keeping it for a short amount of time. If you're keeping it longer you may want to invest in a basking lamp and you will need a UVB bulb as well (both shining on the basking area). Hope this helps and I hope everything is ok with the Terrapin.

its a cooter looks like a florida red belly cooter fill the water up as deep as possible there very good swimmers you will need a heat lamp a 60W and a UVB light shinning over the basking area cork bark is good for bigger terrapins.

Hi
I am appalled that your friend would go away without making adequate arrangements for his pet. Your friend is not a responsible human being.
Any way I thank you for taking in the turtle. You will find that there are many responsible pet owner that will only be happy to help you.

Take Care

Blue Moon

I too am appalled that someone can think so little that they havent made the correct care he' she doesnt deserve a pet.I am just glad you so obviously care.I have never seen a terrapin with such long nails either.I know they need them for digging and ripping up stuff.Dont cut them yourselfs get some reptile person to do it.If they do need cutting.Terrapins need deep water to swim and sand or gravel to lie on you need a fairly big tank by the size of it.And dont let the person have it back. There must be a pet shop or reptile place near where you live who can give you more hands on help.Good luck.
