my two tortoises are hiding!

hi there, i have just joined this group in the hope some one can give me some advice on my two tortoises. i have two 4 year old hermans which we got in feb and at first they were doing all the usual things you would expect but the last 3 weeks they both have been hiding away in their sleeping areaof their indoor table top house.. every day i have been taking them out and giving them a bath as im worried they will dehydrate. once they have had a bath they will eat a little and then go back into their sleeping area and burrow under the shredded paper! is this normal and should i be taking them out to bathe them?? thankyou
