Torti is on a distinguished road
Help with heat and lighting please

Hi all, first post.

My Mediterranean Spur Thigh male has just come out of hibernation. He's been in the family for 30 years but this is my first winter with him and I need to get him going properly.

He must be over 50 yrs as he was big when my brother bought him.

I know he needs heat and UVB. The dilemma is between a Solar Glo or PowerSun vs separate cheap spots and a UVB tube.

I can't find anywhere the area covered by the different sized reflector units (eg Exo Terra Glo Light S,M.L). He'll have an open table setup and I believe I need to suspend the bulb about 12 inches above his shell.

If I just used cheap spots from Wilco like Tortoiselady, how long a UVB tube do I need and what percentage UVB?

This is a great forum for info but I'm spinning in circles as to what is best for him. He lives outdoors in the summer so this is only a temporary setup until nature can take over.

Also, can the UVB from these tubes or bulbs affect our own eyes?

ALL advice greatly appreciated.
