vivarium selection

Hi folks

I'm looking to buy a new vivarium for my sister in law for her birthday
she has 1 Totoise and his current living arrangements are not perfect
(old vivarium smashed!)

Could folks recommend size and point me to good online retailers please
cant get anything too expensive!
She already has a lamp but is there any other equipment folks would advise
I can point other family members that way then.

Re: vivarium selection

I dont use vivs myself. Outside in a secure enclosure with a tortoise table inside if needed. Google tortoise table and you'll see what I mean.

Re: vivarium selection

My Hermann's live outside, and my Leopards are outside as much as possible, but live in a shed when it isn't warm enough for them. I would never use a viv for my torts as they get too warm in them and there isn't enough air circulation. A tort table is much better for them if they are not outside

Re: vivarium selection

I have a viv for my two leopards torts and seem to have no problems. Its a four foot one. It has many air vents and seems to main temp much better than a table. I suppose its up to you what you buy as long as your tort's are happy.

They may seem happy now, but what about in a few years time when they are suffering health problems? I have 3 Leo's myself and they are in a tort table, but in an insulated heated shed so they have loads of room to move in and out of the heat as they please.

Re: vivarium selection

Vivs can lead to long term health issues. anyone using vivs should stop and consider what they could be doin to their pet. tortoise tables are much better.
