I was a sceptic...but now I truly do believe dogs have that 6th sense.
Walking down the main road towards the field and we'd just gotten to the last 30 yards or so when Roo stopped dead and started pulling back in the direction we had gone.
I carried on, attempting to make him move but short of dragging him down the pavement I couldn't! So I turned to go back the way he wanted, thinking if I do that and turn round he might be ok, and I swear down about 5 seconds after I'd moved a car mounted the kerb and crashed into the lamp post just outside the field gate, probably were I would have been had he not stopped.
Everyone in the car was ok, we called the police and ambulance and short of a few cuts and bruises he was lucky. No idea what causes it, but I'm just glad Roo had had a funny turn.
I have a few more years behind me but have never doubted with wisdom of animals.
My old collie used to move from her bed and sit at the door gently wagging her tail and occasionally making a whimper. OH said that he could guarantee 20 mins later, I would walk thro the door.
My arab stopped dead in the middle one morning whilst riding thro the lanes.. No amount of encouragement was going to make him move. Seconds later a cyclist came round the corner. It was a racing bike and the noise was a whisper. It was headed straight for us. He stood strong, knew it was coming - whereas I cacked myself. The cyclist did a last minute swerve, yelled an apology and was gone!!!
Heidi is coming into her own and knows when OH is coming home. His shifts vary so she has no routine to go by.
I am on the fence reference 6th sense (only because I like fact ), but the more stories like yours I hear, the more I believe there is something in it. Thank goodness no one was hurt.
My neighbours say that everytime they have him at ours when we go away or I'm working late, he goes and sits on the window seat about 10 minutes before I pull up outside the house.
And I don't have set finishing times either, I can be home any time between 5 and 7 at night.
Deffo something in it. Its very strange!! I do trust him though.
And yes, he's getting some steak for tea. He's going the groomers this afternoon so I'm making up for it! :001_huh:
Well done Roo. I think animals are amazing. One of my Maine Coons woke me up when my blood sugar levels were dangerously low(I'm Diabetic) I usually wake up on my own but must have been in a really deep sleep and I woke to find him going mad meowing and pawing at me. Saved me from going into a diabetic coma.
Well done Roo. that is amazing and very lucky for you.
I used to do a job where I went round pubs and some of them I only went to once every 2 weeks but at the same time of day each time. A Great Dane at one of the pubs apparently would sit at a window and get very excited for half an hour before I was due every 2 weeks - he never bothered about any other visitors and never sat at the window at any other time.
My old foster rotti saved me once too...
I decided to go to the 24hr tesco it must have been about 1am, as I had him with me was the only time I would go so late..
We got to the big bridge that goes over the bypass and suddenly he just would not budge... no moving a 10st rottweiler! I tried and tried to get him to move on and he was having none of it.
So I backtracked a bit and went up another road to use the 'curly wurly' bridge further up the bypass and through the field to get to tesco. On the way back, same thing, wouldn't go near the big bypass bridge so back the way I came.
A couple of days later in the newspaper a woman had been walking home from the pub and a guy come out of the bushes and attacked and raped her Apparently someone had thought they seen a dark shape moving about just before I would have crossed over if we had gone that way! If a dog doesn't want to go the way I want to, I won't force them.
just posted on a different subject about my dog and safety always trust your dogs senses.im sure they know more than we do.look at siezure dogs etc
