A woman we trusted five years ago to care for our two dogs and keep them together turned out to be a con woman who sold one of them for £250 pounds. We found our Dalmatian about a year after the incident and he is happy and well cared for thankfully. But our Border Collie, Codie, has not been found. She is a neutered female tri-coloured Border Collie who would be about 10-11 years old. She is microchipped and the number is: 958 000000 674 337. She is so dreadfully missed and we just want to find her and know that she is safe, happy and well cared for. She may have been sold to you under a false name.
Description: Black back, white patch at the beginning of tail, white sock markings on all four legs with tan continuing up from the sock markings, faint tan on ears, small separate black patch just above/next to nose, white chest with white continuing around neck, black fur around eyes with tiny noticeable white patch (possible eyelashes?) and white fur between eyes and on muzzle, tan on cheeks.

I am so sorry - what an awful thing to happen. You must be worried sick!

Was it five years ago your dog was sold on, or did you know this woman for five years? (Sorry - being a bit dim, I know, but not sure what you meant and it makes a difference whether someone has just acquired a BC or has had one for a while).

I hope and pray that you get news very soon.

(Did you contact the police? What was their response?)

Five years ago our Codie was being cared for by this woman, but as she sold our other dog, we believe she may have sold her on as well under a different name.
We did contact the police back then, but they basically said they could do nothing as we 'had turned over ownership' even though no paperwork was involved at all.

We are praying hard too. It is good to know that someone has read this - gives us some hop, so thank you.

What an absolute witch! I can't understand the attitude of the police - sounds like they just couldn't be bothered. And it beggars belief what some people are capable of for the sake of what is only a few quid.

It has sickened us all this time. Would it be too much to ask that you could ask your local vet to keep an eye out for her?

What area of the country did this happen in, and how far away was the dalmation located? Just to give an idea of where she's most likely to be.

She told us that she came from Stirling and told our Dalmatian's new family that she came from Falkirk. Our Dalmatian was sold through the use of Gumtree and was delivered to the family in Fife. They were both taken from Coatbridge initially.

Is her microchip registered as belonging to a stolen dog? If it is scanned by any vet, council, or rescue, anywhere, and comes up as stolen then they have to inform petlog. So sorry, you must be worried sick.

Ad ID - 74454340 - Creation Date: 22/02/2011 - Tricoloured Border Collie Bitch - 4yrs - DESCRIPTION - Beautiful wee pedigree lady and an absolute gem of a girl.
Due to unforeseen change in family situational circumstances she is looking for a new home. she is just a lovely lady and loves her walks and playing ball.
    Good recall and amazing personality.
Doesn't destroy if left alone. Would prefer a home with someone that is home not leaving her all day.
She needs a garden and lots of exercise. She is a very very loyal girl.
Asking £150 thank you for looking

These are the details she will have been sold under on Gumtree. Please if you have her or know anything about her - I just want to know that she is safe.
We must stop this woman from doing this again. Please please can anyone help us find our dog?

If she really is pedigree, and they didn't make that up to sell her, did the woman who looked after her for you have her papers too? Just a small chance the new owner may have applied for transfer of ownership instead of shoving the papers in a drawer and forgetting about them. Hope you get some good news soon.

Yes she is full pedigree. No paperwork was involved at all and so her papers weren't handed over to this woman. She is registered as missing on Petlog under my name and address.
    Thank you.

Sorry about that, just an outside chance. I knew she was microchipped but not every vet checks, even though they should.

Can you put an ad in Gumtree with her picture? People tend to go back to use the same sites over and over, even if they're looking for something else they might just flick through the dog section out of interest.

I don't know if this is related but there was a couple in Scotland who had taken numerous dogs and sold them on, including 4 dogs from a charity that are still missing 2 years later. The woman's name was Jennifer Steenson.
