I'm looking to get the dogs long lines and harnesses. I'm sceptical of letting them off in places I'm unsure of, even though they have good recall around other dogs. They would be handy for when we go away as we tend to go walking in woods etc.

Can anyone recommend any good ones??

Long lines plus trees=very unhappy dog!

Go on the equestrian bit of eBay for long lines (lunge lines). The nylon ones are fab for wet, muddy terrain but can be painful if the dog doesn't quickly learn to stop at the end and tries to keep on going. The cushioned cotton ones are nicer for hands and for dry weather.

I always use the SASS harnesses they are made to measure and they will fleece line too

    Tracking harness for dog walking

An alternative to a long line maybe is a flexi giant which I also use its the solid wide webbing all the way through, they do an 8M and 10M one. Ive had them for years and these have never managed to break one yet. May be an alternative to getting tangled up in a long line.
Flexi Giant 8 and 10 metre

Other then that there is the clix long lines
Clix do 2 lengths a 5M and 10M just for info as there is a lot of places to get them

I can recommend using a pair of gardening gloves with a waterproof palm-side to handle training lines in wet muddy conditions.

The following harnesses are of excellent design and endorsed by those who have canine health as their prime concern

Tilley Farm TTouch Harnesses and Leads
Haqihana Italian hand made dog harness

When selecting a line you need to consider the material very carefully.

Remember a line is likely to get wet in the UK (and thus the line can get very heavy if it is absorbent), very muddy and perhaps covered in **** from various sources so also perhaps very smelly.
