    Hi all

This is Talula an ex battery hen I adopted in May of this year. Her comb has always been floppy but was white when I got her and is now a healthy pink.

She had no wing or rear end feathers but as you can see is now nicely feathered apart from the back end. I have tried everything to make her better and for a few days she seems OK and then next her bottom looks like this. I have used: Ivermectin, bathed her (in summer), dusted her bottom with Smite.

Has anyone got any tips please? Do you think it's OK to bath her now as the average temperature is about 7 degrees? I could keep her inside the house all day until she dries.

    Please help

    Many thanks

    Paula

Defiantly bathe her again. Are you sure it's lice causing the problem?

Thanks so much for making the effort to find this. It is really useful and am tending to think this is what it is. Will buy some Canesten and start treating.

    Thanks again.

Try using D E which is diatomaceous earth which is a powder which kills lice and mites you can get it on ebay .
Be very careful to wear a mask whilst using wont do your respretory tract much good .
if you mix it with food it is an effective wormer as well
    all the best

Thanks, I use this regularly, but not totally sure of it's effectiveness. Thanks though for feedback.

Thanks I regularly dose with Nutrimin. Love it.

I actually bathed all six of them a couple of weeks ago; gave them a Spa day ha ha. Soaked them in Epsom salts; washed bottoms with Johnson's Baby Shampoo, picked Talula's nits off; gave them a lovely blow dry; applied coconut oil to combs, wattles and Talula's bottom; and let them run around my house for a few hours until totally warm and dry. They loved it.

Pictures to follow when I get time x
