Scorpions

Me and my OH are very interested in keeping scorpions.

I've been looking around for loads of info.

Is this correct?

Quote:
Scorpion Care Sheet
You will need a locking screen top tank. A 5 -10 gallon tank is fine for one or two scorpions. A 15-20 gallon tank will be needed if keeping a communal colony.

For tropical scorpions you will need eco-earth or bed-a-beast substrate. For desert scorpions you may use commercial play sand as a substrate.

A hide area or multiple hiding areas if you have more than one scorpion. Half logs available at most pet stores work well for this.

A shallow water dish.

Optional decorations available at pet stores may be added to the cage if you desire to make it a more attractive and natural looking habitat.

An under the tank heat pad should be provided on one side of the tank.

Specific lighting is not required for scorpions because they are nocturnal, but a UV black light will make your scorpion glow and is very interesting to see.

Gut loaded crickets and other insects for feeding your scorpion.
Also, what scorpion would you recommend as a first time owner?

Re: Scorpions

Emperor's are usually good beginners, and I guess there might be a couple more.

My advice is sign up on the reptile forums, there are tons of people on there who can give you sound advice, or just browse the threads in the invert section

Re: Scorpions

Guessing your already sorted now, thought I'd post anyways..

I'd reccommend the below:

Heterometrus or Pandinus

Both need to be kept pretty humid, get a fair size.. Easy to keep, the Pandinus are pretty laid back and most will tolerate handling(If you feel the need to handle) Also they do good in communal groups, Heterometrus tend to be more aggressive.. Can still be kept in communal groups and they normally do well if theres many hides..

I'd also suggest buying smaller CB specimens, I've had some adults here and as they are WC your unsure how old they are.. So you may not have one for very long and its not nice losing them.

Any other questions, feel free to pm me

Buthid.
