Re: Baby het albino boa photos
I think many of the different colour morps/mutations are really beautiful and I understand why many people desire to keep.
But from a conservation point of view they are a nightmare. Every time we establish any species of wildlife in captivity there's a race to breed mutations. To be the first to breed and the first to own them. The problem is we are destroying them as a species. No longer can we release them back into the wild. We are living at a time when species are becoming extinct faster than ever. Perhaps animal breeders should think more about this and try to maintain species as close to their wild state as possible. Perhaps mutations once they occur should be kept separately from their normal counterparts to protect them. I would much sooner go to see a collection of several different species, than a collection of the same species, but different colours. For all the beautiful mutations you find, there are some pretty ugly ones too. |

In the wild almost all of these mutations would be pick off by predators and the ones which survive, survive because of environmental conditions and help a species to change. But they are very very few. I just feel with the accelleration of species becoming extinct these days, it would be better to keep mutations from their wild counterparts.
