my corn is rattling

my corn snake has started to rattle the end of his tail!!hes 12 months old and i have had him for 2 weeks now,he is used to being held (so im told) and hasn't done this before.i put my hand in his viv and he didn't look like he was going to strike!is this normal?

It means your corn is been defensive... It must be nervous, have you got plenty of hides in the vivarium?

Its nothing to worry about and make sure you handle reguraly

I agree with reptilicious, the snakes just nervous. Make sure it's got plenty of hides to feel secure and try picking it up in the next day or so, allowing it to calm down. I've had hatchlings display this behaviour but after several days of gentle handle they tamed down.

my king used to do the same, we just went rite in and handled her, she soon settled down...so settled to the point she didnt want to go back in

Totally normal ! Even a happy snake with lots of hides can get a bit defensive sometimes,nothing to worry about at all!
