Corn Snake

I just got a corn snake from a breeder. It's about 2 months old and I have some questions.

- I want to take it to the vet and make sure it's healthy, is that normal to do with a snake? If so, can I take it to any vet or is there a special reptile vet I need to go to?

- I want to use Zoo Med Eco Reptile Terrarium Carpet. Is that suitable for a corn snake? I want what is healthy for it and i'm afraid to get aspen or wood chippings for it. I don't want it to eat the bedding, although I will be feeding it in a seperate place.

- As small as it is, should I get a shallow water bowl?

- What is a good way to secure the lid of its home so it can't escape?

- What bulbs do I use and how many watts?

- how often should I take the snake out?

If you can answer any or all of these questions, please do!

Re: Corn Snake

You might want to ring up the vet beforehand to check that they are ok dealing with snakes and if they aren't, can they recommend you someone who is?

Not sure about the substrate I'm afraid...

Yes, get a bowl big enough for it to fit in, as this helps with when it needs to shed etc

Not sure about the other answers... I will direct someone here who does know though

Peace

Re: Corn Snake

all i know is that it's a columbian rainbow boa. all it does is hide in its rock and i dont want to keep checking on it because i think its just trying to get settled. The temp is 85 and humidity is 25. i have two lamps on it..ones a 75 watt infrared and ones a 40 watt. the temp and humidity won't rise no matter what i try.

If so its very difficult to keep humidity in pure glass ones,we found our BRB was so much happier in a pladtic type viv with sliding glass

Re: Corn Snake

One easy way to give the snake some humidity is to use a hide with damp moss in it. This will be essential when the snake comes to shed its skin.
