poory snake.

Hi, my sisters royal python finally ate a rat after 5 months just before we went away on holiday, he regurgitated the rat a few days later and he no has a couple of scales misssing on his belly and it looks sore. He is a 2 year old male. she is trying to find a vet to take him to but can any one suggest what could be the problem

Re: poory snake.

any pic`s of this ?
i would recheck temps and humidity levels , could be too much moisture in the viv.
royals are notorious for being problem feeders , how long has she had him ?

yea but you did ask for advice , so no need to be rude! details were thin on the ground how on earth is someone supposed to try and help , there are so many things that could be up with the snake , humidity too high , temperature levels wrong , burnt himself on his heat source , scale rot , anything!!! as for regurging , could have been handled too soon after feeding , husbandry wrong , as i said , royals can be notorious problem feeders some can go for months without eating , thats why i asked how long she had owned him because if she`d only owned him a couple of months , there could have been the problem!! always best to see royals feeding before taking them on!!! plus if she`s left him this long without seeing a vet , that`s discusting!!!!

no she hasnt waited this long to take him to the vet, i have waited this long before replying, you assume to much, i dont talk to her on a daily basis just so i can update people on here. I am entitled to be rude if people are rude to me, just because i made a error in age on a snake thats not even mine she did see it feeding before she took it on, its not uncommon for a royal to go a long time without feeding, it was the regurgitating that i thought may have been more of an issue that was the reason why i mentioned feeding not because i thought it was a long time.

Re: poory snake.

It's pretty normal fir royals they are little monkeys!

Aloe Vera gel ( the pure natural one!) is fine to use on snakes we have used it in the past also if she has any hibascrub (sp) she can keep it clean with that

If it's nice and clean then it's poss it's just caught it's self on something in the viv

I feel her pain trying to find vets who can give proper advice on snakes, we went to a few who didn't know their bottoms from their elbows when it came to them

why bother asking then ? i know it`s not uncommon for a royal to go so long without feeding , i keep them no one was being rude to you at all , you decided to take umbrance to the fact you made an errorand got questions thrown at you , even the smallest of injuries can cause the biggest problems and without photographic evidence of what has occured to this snake it would be very unwise to comment on any kind of treatment it may need.these vets are reptile specialists http://www.downlandvets.co.uk/emsworth.html werent hard finding one now was it.
