Feeding Cornsnakes

About three day's after I have fed my snake a white mouse (bought frozen and thawed in warm water) it re presents the mouse, I don't know how as I never seen it occurring. The mouse appears to have all the meat remover from the bones and just the bones and fur are presented. Is this normal ???????? Thanks in advance.........Sandieann

Re: Feeding Cornsnakes

sounds like she vomited her food back up was she handled after the feed? as this can be a major factor and can make snakes regurgitate/vomit their feeds you really shouldn`t handle a snake until at least three days after a feed, increased stress can cause this, improper husbandry, eating meals backwards, over drinking after eating, dirty environment [not saying you keep your snake this way] but they are all factors. i`d also not defrost her food in water, just leave it out for a couple of hours defrosting as thats all it takes. if she has never done this before i would be taking her to a vet to get her checked out.

Re: Feeding Cornsnakes

I had this with mine. Regurged a mouse after 3 days (boy, was that smelly!!). I discovered my temps werent quite high enough so readjusted my mat stat by a few degrees.
Id also suggest leaving the next feeding for at least 10-14 days to give your snake a chance to get over it.

i`d be really worried about other things too if my snakes regurgitated/vomited feeds especially if they have never done it before it`s not just one factor that can cause this,it could be a number of them,it can be very dangerous for them to do this and can sometimes result in death, also the next feed should be substantially smaller than the previous one it vomited/regurgitated 8-10 days after the last feed, still i am ever overly cautious with this kind advice and the poster should seek veterinary advice with their corn snake regurgitation/vomiting feeds should never be ignored, agree it could be temperatures too hot,too cold so this should be checked, could be many other factors too which is why medical advice should be sought, could be so many things that could make the problem serious. if you do try feeding your snake again as advised next meal should be HALF the size of the last one 8-10 days after last regurged feed,if snake regurgitates/vomits next feed snake should be taken to the vets.
just as a guide,my own corns viv is set at 70 degrees.F in the cool end,hot end temp is 86 degrees.F and a hide is available to her in the hot and cold end. feeds should not be defrosted in water or the microwave either. mine all have their feeds individually packed in freezer bags and these are left out in a plastic bowl on top of their vivs for a couple of hours on feeding day

Re: Feeding Cornsnakes

I know it could be from other reasons that is why I only shared my experience and not offered any advice, except to make sure the OP didnt try and feed again straight afterwards.
My guy had no further problems and carried on eating as you would expect of a Corn Snake (little piggy!!LOL)

Re: Feeding Cornsnakes

I have had my Corn Snake to the vet and been given a clean bill of health, he offered the same advice as yourselves and suggested I change the bedding from Beech chips as it could be an allergy as my snake yawns a lot, something I assumed was normal for snakes.......Just thought you would like an update, Thanks again for your advice...........Sandi

some don`t do well on beech chips it can be a horrible substrate , sometimes snakes will yawn when they are getting ready for a feed , or when temperatures are dropping or too hot or simply realigning their jaws , all mine have a good ole yawn day before feeding day so it`s nothing to be too alarmed over as it can mean so many things , usually that they are getting ready for a feed
what i usually do to get ideas on what to use in their vivs is look at where they originate from in the world to give me some ideas on what i can use in their vivs as decorations and substrates
google images can be an invaluable source to give you some ideasglad your snake is okay!
