Yeah, i'd only had him a few days and fully expected him to not eat for a week or so but thought i'd offer it anyway. He nearly got my hand when he grabbed at it, scared me to death

I find it better to remove the snake and feed him separately in a plactic tub and then replace him in the vivarium once he's fed. That way every time you put your hand into the vivarium the snakes learns your just picking him up because he's never fed in there. It greatly reduces the chance of getting bitten.
