Re: Intro Fudge the hamster

Lovely hamster and great pics! You have done the right thing leaving him alone today! You need to build his trust slowly!

Just give him treats through the bars to start with.

When he's happy with that put your hand in to give treats.

Then put them on the palm of your hand so he has to come onto your hand.

Then further up your hand so he gets on all the way.

Once he is happy coming onto your hand you can pick him up but don't push it, wait until he is happy with it.

You may find he will let you stroke him at any stage but will probably not be so keen to be picked up until he fully trusts you.

Make sure you move slowly and so he can see you at all times!

Re: Intro Fudge the hamster

Hes very cute!
I have often found that for a hampster who bites or runs when you put your hand near its cage, the best way to get them out is a loo roll tube.
Place the tube into the cage and wait for the hampster to fully walk into it, then slowly move the tube out of the cage and let the hampster walk onto your hand.
Hampsters need to be held as often as possible to get them tame, and make sure there are no food smells on your hand, thats the only time mine ever bit me was straight after eating cake or chopping carrots!
Hope that helps

I think everything I wanted to say has been said. Though, this is something else to add. Try to avoid lifting hamsters with sweaty palms. I've never uncovered the reason but hamsters hate the smell and will be more likely to bite if you have sweaty palms.
