My lot :D

I don't think Iv posted pictures of my little furies on here..or if I have its not been in a very long time.

Anyway, We've just had our garden laid with artificial lawn so the furies have been restricted to their shed and decking area.

Today I took the mesh away and let them explore.
The pigs weren't very interested but the buns loved it, esp the girls who were running around jumping for joy!

Heres a few pics

Sorry for the overload

Re: My lot :D

Very sweet but please split the guinea pigs and rabbits up.
Rabbits carry Bordatella in their nasal passage, which poses no threat to them, but it is fatal for guinea pigs.

Thank you for your concern but I have always had pigs and rabbits living together for years and never had problems. They wouldn't possibly be able to have the enrichment and enjoyment that they have now if they were split up.

Re: My lot :D

you have a lot of beautiful furies I would think they'd chomp that "grass" given half a chance.

I'm afraid I also agree with Bernie, rabbits also have very powerful back legs and are much stronger than a guinea pig

You wouldn't know if you had, had any problems. Bordatella is a silent killer, the only way to rule it out is a necropsy on every animal.

All it will take is for your pigs immune system to be compromised and bordatella could kill your whole herd.
I'm sorry but just because you have kept them together for years, doesn't make it right now. We learn as we evolve, we now know that Bordatella kills guinea pigs so there is no reason to risk it

Cant they catch this if they are housed next to each other, isn't it an airborne thing?

It is airborne to a certain extent yes, it is likened to kennel cough but unlike kennel cough by the time you notice symptoms it is far too late

I have known people to lose a whole herd of pigs from one rabbit sneeze

Some have success housing them side by side so long as there is a sufficient gap between set ups so they can't touch, but IMO that is still too risky.

Re: My lot :D

Lovely pics, its nice to see them enjoying the space and having that sense of freedom

I hate to be another bringing negativity to this thread but I will just quickly add that I also agree with whats been said in regards to not keeping rabbits and guinea-pigs together. The potential hazards are too great in my opinion to even contemplate mixing the 2 species. Along with the bordetella they have very different dietary requirements, they do not speak the same language, and normal bunny behaviour can very easily injure or even kill a little piggy.

I would also go easy on the carrot and cucumber, carrots are very sugary and cucumber contains alot of water so best to feed sparingly or as a treat.

Don't feel bad about it, there are still alot of people in your position who think they are fine together as it was commonly done for so long. Its only been in recent years that alot of people have learned it has been wrong to keep them together
