How do you handle them? Do you have to wear gloves? What do they eat? How long do they live? Are they ok on their own or do they need a pal? Do you keep them indoors or outdoors? Sorry for all the questions ![]()

Re: Hoglets :p
handling - well when they first come they will prob be huffy and curl into a ball, you can pick them up in a blanket or something. I dont, i find over time you get used to it and its just a matter of spreading the weight. When they settle the spikes will mainly lay flat (unless scared by something) so its just like picking any other animal up
feeding - i feed mine cat biscuits daily plus one of the following: egg, chciken, lean mince, carrot/ other veg, fruits (no grapes or raisins), mealworms etc the lifespan is around 4 yrs they are solitary, sometimes two girls will get on but not worth the risk most of the time. they can fight. I often have all my girls out in a big playpen but they are supervised they have to be indoors, unlike wildies they dont hibernate (hibernating is dangerous for them) but room temp is fine for more detailed info theres a forum for aph people in the uk Pygmy Hogs UK - African Pygmy Hedgehog Forum I am on there with the same name ![]() Last edited by angriesthedgehog; 19-10-2010 at 11:44 PM.. |
