Thumbs down Advice on baby gerbil

One of my gerbils gave birth in the 13/04/2010 and one of the babys leg/ankle is broken, The foot points up instead of being flat. This baby is alot smaller then the rest but looks ok. I was wondering of what to do with her?

Re: Advice on baby gerbil

I would ring your vet and ask, it could well be in pain and need anti inflamatory and pain killers, Long term I think it could cope well with the full use of only 3 legs but you may have to help out with bathing the ear onthat side.

Re: Advice on baby gerbil

Sorry Ive never hand raised any of the hamster or mice babies but I know they are notoriously difficult, Im surprised the vet said that though I would have been more inclined to top up its feed if possible but keep it on mainly mums milk. I know baby mice often get fed using a paint brush dipped in the milk as they can inhale it with syringe feeding and that can often be fatal. Is it the proper kitten formula that you are using or the little cartons of kitten/puppy milk that you can buy because Im not sure its the same thing.
