I brought some baby dumbo rats a few weeks back and they are ever so small compaired to the size of the ones in the pet shops.

How big should they be when you buy them a know that they are weaned at around 6 weeks, but how big are they ment to be?

Also they keep sneezing. I changed their bedding from sawdust as i know that only some are alergic not all. But they still continue to snezz all the time is because they are in with other animals that have sawdust in their cages or should i take them to the vets?

i had some rats that had the sneezes (not due to bedding as i dont use sawdust or wood chips) and the vet gave me antibiotics for them and it cleared it up fine so i wud advise u to take them to the vets if they are unwell. The vet told me that some rats are always sneezy and they just live with it fine, but its always best to check as mine totally recovered, and if it is a virus it could spread 2 your other animals. hope this helps

No problem oh about t size of ur dumbos i hv dumbos and top ears n the sizes were about the same but i found that my first 2 rats which were from a pet shop were much smaller than my others which were from a breeder. but i suppose all are different but id advise 2 always buy from a breeder or even better rescue. and girls are smaller than boys so if they are girls that wud explain the size 2

I did buy mine from a breeder, that is why i thought that they may be a bit small as the ones in the pet shop looked bigger. I'll ask the vet when i take them to see her.

Just a thought here rodents can change size around, depending on the breeds and genes, maybe they are going to have a growth spurt but perhaps the pet shops dumbo rats are bred bigger or possibly another type of breed (Maybe heheh)

But I am not too sure, I could be right ( Or wrong )

A dumbo rat is a fancy rat.
It is not a breed.It is just a variety.There are many varieties of fancy rats,but they are all the same species.

Get them some antibiotics for the sneezing,if it gets any worse.
But it is normal for some rats to sneeze abit when they are introduced to new surroundings.But like I said,if they keep it up...then they need antibiotics.

I would never use sawdust either.
If your going to use wood as a litter,aspen is a safe choice.
Pine and cedar is bad.And I also wouldn't get sawdust from someone working with wood,because in most cases it is a bunch of different woods together.I know,because my uncle works with wood and used to bring me giant bags of sawdust.When I asked what kind it was,thats what he told me.

They may be younger then 6 weeks.
Rats can be weaned at 4-5 weeks just to let you know.

I have my dumbo rats living in a cardbord bedding stuff it is quite good, but my other animals that live in the same room as them have woodshavings for their bedding and i was wondering if it could be due to this that they are sneezing?

I hvae booked an appointment with the vet just to be on the safe side!

Well if there are phenols in the sawdust,then yes...it is a possibility they are sneezing from it being airborne if they are in the same room.
