Re: Travelling with my Rat...In need of some help!!!

I shall try & upload some pics of Fluff & the new addition when she arrives...

Fluffy's only about 3 months herself, I've not had her that long so she's not been without ratty company for ages & ages...it's been maybe 3 weeks??? I'd have got two to begin with but she was the last of her litter & all alone. (I bought her from a pet shop...I know, I know, I shouldn't be feeding the trade but I went to get the cage & she was all alone and she wiggled her ears at me...I really didn't mean to come home with a rat that day, it just sort of happened!)

She's pretty tame already, a bit territorial in the cage but even her nips in there don't really hurt or break the skin. I am a little worried about introducing her to the new one...I don't want her to feel her cage is being invaded & behave in a hostile manner.
I let her free range on my bed and even on the floor a little and I've had no issues with her not wanting to be caught to go back in the cage.
And I'm travelling from Cornwall to Belfast...so it's a bit of an epic. I'm worried it'll be stressful for them but I really don't want to leave them with anyone. I only see my parents once or twice a year so it's a bit of a dilemma. I may have to just leave the girls with a friend.

Re: Travelling with my Rat...In need of some help!!!

Mmmm, that IS quite an epic journey by public transport. Stressful for you and the fur-babies. I think I would be inclined to find a compassionate friend. The good thing about that is that your friend is bound to fall in love with ratties while looking after them, and ratty world domination is a step nearer! My OH wouldn't let me have rats until I looked after a friend's girls on the strict understanding that she would have NOTHING to do with them. It only took a couple of days before she was enchanted and we have had rats of our own ever since!! I am sure you will be able to find someone to look after them nearly as well as you!! Good luck - and let us all know how you go!
