One of my piggies just died :-(

I feel devastated, we have had our 2 piggies for about 3 months. Last night I noticed one was abit quiet and thought something might be wrong. Today he was slumped and quite cold in the cage. Took him to the vets and he gave him some antibiotics and some solutions for me to try and syringe feed him with and said we would know the outcome in the next 24 hours.

I got home and tried to feed him but he was just too floppy and didn't even try. I put him back in his little carrier and covered him up to keep him warm and when I checked again 10 minutes later he was gone :-(

I am so upset, the one that died my daughter picked and although she knew he was poorly this morning before she went to school I just dont know how to tell her. My 3 year old keeps asking me where he is too and I just dont know what to say cos she doesnt understand at all what I am saying.

:-( :-(

Oh no I am sorry Quite often guineas go in this way, so quickly and there seems to be no explanation. For us, its always been the smooth haired ones that this happens to, since then, we've never got another smoothie.

Rest peacefully little piggie

Well the kiddies all know now even though they dont all understand and keep asking for him. The remaining one seems very quiet although I dont think he is unwell, maybe he is just feeling sad wondering where his friend is?

The vet just said it was a tummy problem and very common. He was a smooth piggie so I do hope the other one doesnt go the same way :-(

cavy_gal is an unknown quantity at this point
Re: One of my piggies just died :-(

What type of "tummy problem"? Doesn't seem like something a vet who knew what they were talking about would say

I've never heard of this before very odd.
