Apparently (just googled it) it is because hamsters are considered an "Extreme threat" to the environment if they were to escape and start a wild colony. Clearly it was thought out - wild boars are only considered a "serious threat". So if you see a hamster coming towards you run, if you see a boar coming at you take a picture

My new cage which is on order from ebay didn't come and I hated seeing her in the Savic Peggy cos it's so small so last night I put her in the Habitrail Ovo loft with the extension and she seemed so happy, she loves the wheel.
